Natural Human Goodness
The character Simon represents natural human goodness in Lord of the Flies. He is an all-around good person who doesn't engage in fights or arguments. He tries to keep the peace and keep others happy. He also reassures people when they need it most. He says to Ralph in chapter seven "I just think you'll get back all right." Simon also helps the littluns collect fruits.
In chapter eight, Simon climbs the mountain to find the beast. When he reaches his destination, he sees a pig's head on a stick that some of the boys had put there. He then hallucinates a conversation with the pig head. The pig head is the devil and test's Simon. Simon remains a good person, even when faced with Hell. He then discovers the beast isn't real, but when he tries to tell the other boys the beast isn't real, he is killed.
Simon's not the only one who's naturally good. Check out the website for the Peace Corps.
